■Backpack Battles 1.0 Launches with 2 new characters in New Class
Shochiku Co., Ltd. announced Backpack Battles will launch 1.0 on 2A.M. (JST), June 14, 2025.Since entering Early Access on March 8, 2024, the game has received over 13,500 reviews on Steam.
Backpack Battle, which has undergone approximately 40 updates over the course of a year, has been played for a total of approximately 35 million hours to date.
The 1.0 release brings a major content update, including:
- 2 new playable classes: Mage and Adventurer
- New class-specific items for all existing classes
- Steam achievements and trading cards
- Various quality-of-life improvements
◇New Classes1: Mage
The Mage is designed for experienced players who enjoy complex strategies. This class emphasizes resource and space management, offering high flexibility through the crafting of multi-elemental spell items by combining different types of scrolls.
One of her unique mechanics is "wizard chess" — players can place black and white chess pieces in the backpack that activate effects during battle when capturing or being captured.
One of the Mage’s starting loadouts is the "Puzzle Bag" which allows her to gain access to bags in Tetris-block shapes that have special effects and are tricky to fit into place.
◇New Class2: Adventurer
One of her loadouts gives her access to items of all six classes, while at the same time generating arbitrary items.
Her signature crafting mechanic revolves around “Twine”, a simple item that allows players to combine neutral items that otherwise would not fit together. For example:
Two spears can be tied into a “Very Long Spear” that barely fits a maximum size backpack.
An “Impractically Large Greatsword” can be combined with a “Bloodthorne” to create the “Impractically Large Bloodthorne” — a powerful late-game weapon.
